Mary Ellen Dougherty, SSND, is a former college English teacher whose life has touched students in many areas of education, from men and women in prison to bishops across the United States and beyond. Her current ministry, addressing issues of human trafficking, is a stark reminder of the voiceless with whom we live. Explore the many facets of her educational efforts toward justice and human rights.

A persuasive speaker, Margaret Ellen Traxler once challenged Mary Ellen Dougherty to live the gospel in a new way. It was difficult to tell Margaret, "no" and this conversation led to relationships with prisoners that radically changed her life.
