Stories of School Sisters of Notre Dame who are/were memorable women provide interesting conversation. Mother Paschal Carton had an unusual relationship to United States politics.

She taught 7-year-old Thomas D'Alesandro who later became Mayor of the City of Baltimore and father to Speaker of the House Nancy D'Alesandro Pelosi. Nancy was also educated by the School Sisters of Notre Dame for eight years at St. Leo’s and four years at the Institute of Notre Dame, Baltimore.
